You've come to experience Barkerville, and we put you in the center of the experience! At the St. George Hotel it's the late 1800's. Pan for nuggets, dance with hurdies, buy a mine claim, grab some grub, and stock up on your provisions. You step out the door and you are immersed in the largest historic site of its kind in Western North America. Step back inside and you have the perfect blend of lifestyle from 1898 with the twenty-first century amenities, subtly interwoven into the fabric of the experience. (Electricity, running water, indoor washrooms, and even high-speed wireless 'telegram' put the St. George at the front of the curve of innovation without clashing with the décor, your hosted experience or the view from the balcony!)

Our quaint 7 room property offers beautifully appointed rooms and a front row seat to the comings and goings of Barkerville's colorful characters. Always in period clothing, and well versed in local history, our staff can’t wait to extend a warm welcome and are happy to assist you in enjoying the interpretive programs, restaurants, shops, Theatre Royal and of course gold panning in Barkerville. We'll connect you to special events in Barkerville and in the nearby gold-rush community of Wells.

Unless otherwise noted, 2 night minimum stay from June till the season end in September. You'll be glad we convinced you to stay two nights. Barkerville is the largest authentic historic site in Western North America. One night stays always regret missing out on the interpretive schedule. You'll want a full day here and many people chose longer stays. Call us if you have any questions about how to organize your travels through BC to maximize your stay in Barkerville.

There is nothing that compares to the magic of the spectacular Cariboo night sky as you wander the town's boardwalks in your own private goldrush town. Our comfortable parlor is the perfect place to enjoy lively conversation with new friends and your favorite beverage. After what may be the best sleep you have ever had, relax in the lounge with your coffee and fresh treat from the bakery, or wander three doors away for a stack of pancakes at the Wake Up Jake Restaurant. Kick back on the 2nd floor balcony and watch the parade of miners and merchants as they go about their typical day in a Gold Rush town. Wave to the folks coming by on the stagecoach and get the best view in town for daily street theatre.

Whether you plan to spend the day, or make us your home base for exploring the Barkerville/ Wells/ Bowron Lake area, you'll find the St. George Hotel is the perfect place to relax in the midst of history. Our friendly staff will make you feel right at home after your adventure along the Gold Rush Trail. If you're arriving late in Barkerville, call us from Quesnel for some eating advice. We have really great restaurants and pubs, but Barkerville and Wells restaurants have seasonal schedules that we can advise you on before you get here!

Madame Bendixon, the original proprietor of the St. George, was a colorful goldrush character. French emigrant to the California Goldrush, consort of American vigilante gang leaders, close friend of Hanging Judge Begbie, and known for her fiery tongue, and questionable moral standards. Questions still rise about the true purposes of her saloons and hotels! (nod, nod, wink, wink). Her broad success as a female merchant in a man's world, mark her as a key character in a variety of Gold rushes. Her colorful style is reflected in the décor and other characters of the hotel, as well as the general milieu of the streets of Barkerville.

Your stay with us includes a delicious continental breakfast. For those who are looking for a sturdy miners breakfast, adjacent restaurant and bakery are open. As well, throughout the day Wells and Barkerville offer a variety of food service options, and you will have the opportunity to use your own private dining facilities as you desire. Our hotel access is limited to our keyed 'guests-only'.

We look forward to your visit with us in Barkerville,

St. George Staff
